Sumedh Vedya

My name is Sumedh Vedya and I’m from Hyderabad, India. Currently, I live in Nairobi, Kenya, in East Africa. I play the guitar, both acoustic and electric. I’ve been seriously playing the guitar for about 5 years now. It’s a blissful escape from the regular hustle and bustle that come with being in high school. I enjoy playing songs that I like and challenging myself to learn those that I can’t at that point.

There is something magical about coaxing strings to get beautiful sounds out of them. I play in an Orchestra and I also covering songs and for some reason, it always feels amazing to learn and play pieces that I’ve always loved and I didn’t know I could actually play. Eventually, though, I manage to get them in the bag, which is really addictive.

I have learned from Mr Jeetu Mehta in Delhi for about four years and this last one year in Nairobi I have been playing in the International School of Kenya’s concert band as the first chair in my section. My band teacher is Mrs Gwen Anding. I gave the Trinity Rock And Pop exams up to grade four and I got merit twice. At that point, I really didn’t like the format so I started learning the songs I liked. I still play Trinity repertoire though, mostly grade five or six pieces.

My favorite kind of music is either rock or blues. I’ve always loved these genres and I find their format and scales really nice to solo on. I’d love to keep playing it as it’s fantastic to unwind and play music, but I’m not nearly as good to pursue it as a career.
