Revant Mehta
At the age 5, I started learning Indian Classical Vocals. My musical journey started with ragas, where I sang a raga with my grandmother in her studio-recorded musical CD at a very early age. In junior school, I was happy to have all musical friends and we performed together in an Indian music orchestra, winning a national level prize for our all-instrumental performance.
Since the age of 12, I started learning Indian classical vocals from Shri Mohsin Ali Khan, and l continue to imbibe the nuances of the Kirana gharana of Indian music.
At the age of 10, I picked up the classical guitar, soon after which I started to learn the electric guitar as well under Mr. Pranai Gurung, an acclaimed guitarist and teacher, finding a deeper understanding of various musical genres. It made me friends in my new school as we collaborated to form a band.
During the past year when the world moved completely online and children got isolated from each other, our music kept me and my friends together. We often spend our evenings jamming together, sharing our ideas about music with each other and working together on new compositions over online meetings.
I also have a very keen interest on the production side of things - composing music with my digital audio interface and the various virtual studio technologies. It is fascinating for me to discover new kinds of music and musical instruments and create new pieces of music. Whether I’m creating tracks of the standard genre we see everywhere nowadays- hiphop - or, if I’m experimenting with various Arabic and Japanese instruments through software, I never want to stop. Traditions from around the world are coming together with technology and it's a fascinating development. I continue to learn and grow with music traditions, and I believe that our future and the future of music is diverse. Join me on this exciting journey, and let us create.
